Have you wanted to create your own blues on piano keys? Just learning a few basic chords and the way they move (progress) through the song plus the blues scale will give you the musical tools to begin. 12 Bars (measures) are used. In the Left Hand, begin with the C chord for 4 bars, then the F chord for 2 bars, then back to the C chord for 2 bars, and finally to the G chord for 1 bar, the F chord for 1 bar, and ending with the C chord for 2 bars. In the music above, use your Left Hand little finger (#5) to play the bottom note of C, F, or G. Use your Left Hand thumb (#1) to “walk” the bass up and back. If you need to start with an easier bass, just play the C, F, or G.
Now practice some blues scales with the Right Hand. Learning to go up and down the keys will give you the notes to use while your left hand keeps a steady beat. The blues scales will give you the musical tool to be able to create your own Blues Riffs, which are repeated musical phrases. Start with the C Blues Scale, which will go with the chords above. When you want more variety learn the F blues scale and the G blues scale to add where you want.
